Governor, Deval Patrick visited the Neponset Valley Chamber of Commerce to discuss his 2014 budget proposal, which aims to raise nearly $2 billion a year to make long-term, fundamental changes to our transportation and education systems. To achieve this, the proposal includes an array of changes to our tax structure such as an increase in the state’s income tax from 5.25% to 6.25% and a reduction in the sales tax from 6.25% to 4.5%, among others. According to Patrick, the proposed tax changes would make Massachusetts more comparable and competitive with other states.
